St. Cecilia: The Saints and Our Lives

While all of you wonderful people are working on your Saint reflections, I'm going to continue doing some more of these educational ones...as well as include some saint adventures.

Something awesome that happened to me the other day:  I got to stand inside of an organ while it was being played.  This may sound lame, but believe me, it was as if heaven was just surrounding me with harmonies.

St. Cecilia, patroness of music, was the saint I thought of then.

Here's her basic story:  She was a young Roman girl of a noble family who was also Christian.  She wanted to dedicate herself to God and not marry, but her parents compelled her to marry a young man named Valerian.  Legend goes that on her own wedding day, although she had other musicians playing for her and Valerian, in her head she sang holy music to God alone, whom she considered her true spouse.  She converted both her husband and his brother to Christianity, and all three of them were martyred during the time of Christian persecution.

So that's St. Cecilia.  The ancient Roman martyr, but she is so popular, because of her association with music.  Whenever your spirit is moved by a song or symphony, look to St. Cecilia and with her you can give praise to God for the wonderful gift God has given us in music. Sing Amen and Alleluia!

P.S. This month is All Saints month, and I am going to be doing a LOT of Saint related things, so I will be putting my future saint adventures in this blog as long as you guys don't mind.  (That is unless you send me YOUR reflections...which would be the best...and better than me just rambling on and hearing my own thoughts over and over)
